From Baby to Toddler: Transitions

By the time their first birthday rolls around, your child will reach many milestones, each more exciting than the last. With many more mental and physical developments on the way it’s easy for parents to feel overwhelmed.
Not to worry! Here at Tartt’s we are dedicated to making those transitions as smooth as possible for you and your little ones by fostering an environment of support and focusing on what each family needs.
Naps
By around the one year mark, some children will start sleeping less during the day and hopefully longer at night. Many begin to go from two naps to one at this stage. During this time, Tartts educators will help infants to make the transition from a crib to mat for napping. Teachers will often start practicing 2 weeks before the child’s birthday to help ease this transition. Nap time at Tartt’s is from 12 pm to 2 pm for our older infants and young toddlers.
Sippy Cup
Around your baby’s first birthday you may want to start weaning them off of formula or breast milk. For some babies the transition to cow’s milk is easy, they take a sippy cup without much resistance. Other babies have a harder time giving up breast milk or formula. Tartt’s provides whole milk for children once they have made the transition to cow’s milk. Parents are also welcome to continue to send milk from home if there are dietary preferences or restrictions. Your center’s director is a great resource for strategies to help your child wean from a bottle to sippy cup.
Join Tartt’s Meal Plan
This is around the age when your child can transition to table foods. When ready, children are welcome to join Tartt’s meal plan, which includes breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack. We do require that all new foods are introduced at home.
Please ask your center’s Administrative Coordinator for a Meal Authorization Form. Tartt’s menus are posted weekly in our reception areas as well as on our website under Healthy Meals. Each week you can circle what you would like your child to have from our menu.
